December highlights from StartupOulu
Slush Oulu Side Event’s pitching competition brought together new startup ideas from the Oulu region
On November 15th, the spaces of Cultural Centre Valve were filled with enthusiastic growth entrepreneurs, students, and business experts at the Slush Oulu Community Side Event. The event provided opportunities for networking, an engaging panel discussion featuring Peter Vesterbacka and Mikael Pentikäinen, and an exciting pitching competition.
The competition welcomed early-stage or idea-phase startups to pitch their concepts to the jury in three minutes, based on competition criteria. The criteria evaluated both business potential and the persuasiveness of the presentation.
The judges awarded first place to Taikasatukulma, which impressed with its innovative concept for producing digital children's stories and educational materials. Second place went to Protodev for their idea of a glove designed to reduce tremors associated with Parkinson’s disease. Third place was claimed by the logistics service Bringee, which connects transportation needs with travelers. Congratulations to the winners!
Coaching for Health and Life Science Startups from OYSTER Incubator – Apply by 16th of Dec
OYSTER Incubator offers guidance to teams that have already tested their business ideas or to startups at the beginning of their journey. Applications for the coaching program starting at the end of January are open and will close on December 16. The coaching program will run until May 2026.

Kickstart Business Idea Competition Victory to the University of Oulu
This year’s Kickstart Business Idea Competition was won by University of Oulu students Tam Le Hong and Faaiz Gul with their idea Digitalogy, a board game designed to develop AI skills and knowledge for the whole family. The second prize went to Oulu University of Applied Sciences business students Eljas Leppälä and Tuukka Kuosmanen for their idea ReCup, a company offering sustainable marketing for businesses. The third place was awarded to Oamk student Anna Poropudas for her business idea of an AI-powered holistic wellness online coaching service. Congratulations to the winners!
All participants are encouraged to get more involved in entrepreneurship-supporting activities and to participate in events such as those organized by StartupOulu.
